Keynote Speaker
Governor Rick Perry

Governor Rick Perry, Texas (2000-2015)
As the longest-serving governor in his state’s history, Rick Perry helped make Texas America’s economic engine by building the Texas model. Dedicated to creating opportunity and prosperity, Gov. Perry’s administration worked to improve the education system, secure the state’s southern border and increase private sector economic development. Under his leadership, Texas saw the addition of more than 2.2 million new jobs. He reduced state spending by 11.5 percent (when adjusted for inflation and population growth) and cut taxes more than 75 times while encouraging investments in infrastructure such as roads, water and power. He helped improve the quality of education in Texas by increasing accountability, encouraging local control, and raising standards so that children have every opportunity to pursue their dreams. Gov. Perry also led on the important issue of border security by ordering the deployment of Texas National Guard troops to protect Texas’ southern border during an influx of illegal immigration and crime. As governor, he also demonstrated his ability to lead in times of crisis during the Ebola outbreak and numerous natural disasters. He implemented thoughtful criminal justice policies that resulted in crime dropping more than 12 percent and Texas closing down prisons for the first time in recent history. Gov. Perry shares with audiences his thoughts on current events and conveys what he’s learned from his extensive executive and legislative experiences with examples he faced as governor of the Lone Star State.
